Professional Presence Presentation
Hi, I am Jennifer. In today’s presentation, I will discuss professional skills and qualities to achieve professional goals that help me accomplish with distinction in the long run professional culture. I want to enhance my professional attributes to serve better as ER Nurse (Emergency Room Nurse). I possess a high self-awareness of any situation, empathy with selflessness, and acquiring high knowledge skills that enable me to provide high-quality care to our patients, promote positive outcomes, and contribute to the overall success of the healthcare system. One of my professional skills as ER nurse is communication. This includes listening actively, providing clear and concise instructions, and conveying empathy and compassion.

Professional Skills and Attributes
A professional attribute is a potent characteristic. It has helped me to perform assigned duties to the best of my ability. My potential skills have enabled me to inspire and impress others. As an ER Nurse, my primary goal is to encounter complex and challenging situations that require me to analyze data, make informed decisions, and take action quickly. My critical thinking skills help me identify problems, evaluate solutions, and determine the best action. In addition to these skills, I also have strong clinical skills, which include the ability to perform assessments, administer medications, and provide hands-on care. Clinical skills are essential for ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment and monitoring and for detecting and responding to changes in their condition. (Heinen et al., 2019).
As an ER nurse, I have accomplished many professional skills that have enabled me to provide exceptional patient care. One of my proudest accomplishments was saving a patient’s life experiencing a severe asthma attack. Upon noticing that the patient was having difficulty breathing, I quickly assessed the situation and administered the necessary medication to open their airways. I also closely monitored the patient’s vital signs and provided oxygen therapy as needed. (Yıldız & Tok Yıldız, 2022)
My quick thinking and ability to act under pressure allowed me to manage the situation and prevent a potentially fatal outcome effectively. The patient’s family and physician were grateful for my prompt response, and I received positive feedback from my colleagues. This experience demonstrated my strong critical thinking skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, and extensive knowledge of medication and treatments for asthma.
Professional Presence
Professional presence demonstrates respect, confidence, integrity, optimism, passion, and empathy in conformity with professional norms, standards, and codes of ethics. It has helped me to perform my assigned duties to the best of my ability. Furthermore, it has helped me achieve a profound sense of fulfillment and self-worth. Professionalism is a critical skill that nurses must possess. This includes being reliable, respectful, and accountable and adhering to ethical and legal standards. Professionalism helps us build trust with our colleagues and patients and contributes to a positive and effective work environment. As a nurse, I have gained excellent clinical skills, good communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and a caring attitude to patient care.
Previous Accomplishments
I want to share my two accomplishments of professional presence as an ER nurse in my academic and professional career. My prompt decision-making skills have helped me deal with patients who need quick first-aid and are severely injured with multiple injuries. I quickly assessed their condition and provided painkillers. Moreover, the care team took their vitals and looked for bone adjustments that can be done without any surgery or operation.
However, as they were severely injured and in critical condition, I promptly assessed that it could not be treated in an emergency. I quickly referred them to the orthopedic department to prepare for surgical treatment for the patient. After successful treatment and stabilizing his condition, our team of doctors and the patient’s family appreciates my quick decision-making and critical analyses.
The second example of my professional accomplishment as a head ER Nurse, I have instructed my trainers to transfer duties to auxiliary and emergency room staff nurses; supervised the creation and maintenance of emergency room patient clinical records; and provided reports on emergency room staff performance and services provided (İlhan & Küpeli, 2022). During the severe heat-wave time, numerous cases were informed of dehydration, causing dizziness and nausea. The department had an emergency and rush, as I was expecting this situation. Considering the weather pattern, I decided to plan a 1-day workshop to deal with this situation quickly and introduce techniques to give quick and lasting treatments to patients to make them feel with adequate oral care and fluid dosage. Upon investigation and visits by our head of healthcare organization, my team and I, as head of ER, were genuinely appreciated and awarded as the best ER team. This way, my decision-making skill has significantly influenced my professional presence.
Specific Strategies and Practices to Develop Professional Skills
Improving professional skills requires deliberate practice, feedback-seeking, learning from others, and ongoing education. The first step in developing professional skills is to identify the areas in which improvement is necessary. This can be accomplished by requesting feedback from coworkers or managers or by self-assessment to determine your strengths and limitations (Fernández et al., 2020). By joining a nursing-related professional organization, such as the American Nurses Association, I can assist nurses in keeping abreast of the most recent trends and developments in their industry. These organizations provide opportunities for continuing education, networking events, and professional resources to assist nurses in acquiring new skills and enhancing their practice. Ongoing education is essential to the practice of nursing.

Online courses, seminars, and workshops will give me access to the industry’s most current methods and approaches. I can also pursue advanced degrees or certifications in specialized fields such as critical care or pediatrics to acquire competence in a particular field. These programs can allow me to acquire new skills, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and enhance my clinical judgement and decision-making ability. Frequent self-reflection can help me find areas to improve my skills and knowledge (Veen et al., 2019). This may involve analyzing patient outcomes and feedback, soliciting peer input, and recognizing chances to learn from mistakes. I can seek mentors who can guide professional growth, aid in developing particular skills, and provide valuable performance evaluations. By engaging in these techniques and activities, nurses can continuously grow their professional abilities, increase their knowledge and competence, and provide their patients with superior care.
Strategies for Maintaining Professionalism
Nursing came into being because of the need of human beings for care in times of need. All other professional behaviors assist the nurse’s specific duty of providing care. If a nurse truly cares for each patient, accepts that person as unique, respects their rights, and attends to their physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs, the bulk of the ethical code’s requirements will be met. It includes treating everyone equally, regardless of nationality, race, religion, color, age, sex, politics, or socioeconomic standing. To improve as ER nurse, I have planned to apply a few strategies to perform better along with my critical thinking, quick decision making and communication skill, which will help me, in the long run, to be professionally accountable for medical treatments, maintaining good relationships with coworkers, maintain patient health confidentiality and last but not least to put patient care on priority (Natarajan & Joseph, 2021).
The second plan would be to deal with fatigue and stress caused by long-hour shifts, just like fatigue and stress can cloud judgment. They can contribute to behaviors you might not normally do or say if you have a whole night’s sleep. Pent-up frustrations from work and home stressors like family, marital, and financial issues sometimes boil over in the heat of the moment, causing you to snap at a coworker. Attending to my physical and emotional needs will reduce the overall stress load on my mind and body and allow me to interact more professionally. While feeling no shame in asking for help is the other thing I plan to improve in my professional practices (Dubey & Tiwari, 2020). Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; nursing is complex and busy. There is always a lot to do and little time. Knowing your limits emotionally and physically is a strength, just like I am one person and can only be in one place at a time.
Conclusion
There are always new and evolving areas where nurses can improve their professionalism. In the workplace, nurse practitioners should self-reflect and incorporate new, experience-based knowledge into their everyday practices. I want to excel as ER nurse in my professional career. I like to study and advance my nursing degree programs in a fantastic approach to expand opportunities for honing professional abilities. Obtaining a DNP is a worthwhile endeavor for advanced-career nurses, and I seek to enhance my leadership abilities and acquire new clinical knowledge. According to the Journal of Nursing Education, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares prospective nurse leaders in “care administration, critical and sophisticated clinical judgment, nursing therapeutics, and the appropriate use of technology to affect change.”

- Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, including a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words. Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source. One or two-sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words. I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
- Weekly Participation
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately. In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies. Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work). Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
- APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with the APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required). Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation. I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
- Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage over-utilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Master’s level and deduct points accordingly. As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content. It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
- LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to Lopes Write, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me. Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes. Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own? Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
- Late Policy
The university’s policy on late assignments is a 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies. Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances. If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect. I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension. As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
- Communication
Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me: Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class. Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.
