The purpose of this direct care project is for learners to apply the nursing process to a community health problem determined by their observations and data collected of vulnerable populations in their community. This is Part 2 of 4 in the Direct Care Project.

Course Outcomes
This direct care project enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

Directions for Part 2
- For this part of the direct care project, you will be creating a PowerPoint presentation based on the topic and problem identified in Part 1. If you have chosen substance use, you will present to at least 3 practicing RN’s. You can present all at one time or individually. If you chose air quality, you will present to at least one organization leader.
- Each topic has separate directions. Download the Planning Your Presentation Directions for your corresponding topic. For example, if you have selected Air Quality as your topic, download the Air Quality Flag Program: Planning Your Presentation Instructions.

- Download the template below and create a PowerPoint presentation for your selected group.
- Create speaker notes for the PowerPoint presentation. These will assist you as you present and will be part of your assignment submission.
- The presentation should be no fewer than 8 and no more than 15 slides.This does not include the introduction and reference slides.
- Submit presentation in PDF for instructor approval. See Submitting PowerPoint Notes Pages in PDF format (Links to an external site.)
- Note: You may not present until your presentation has been approved by your instructor.
- Review comments about your presentation from your instructor in Grades.
- Even if you are approved, you may have to edit your presentation.
- If your presentation is approved, it will be marked “Complete” under the Week 4: Direct Care Project Part 2: Presentation Approval under Grades.
- If your presentation is not approved, it will be marked “Incomplete” under the Week 4: Direct Care Project Part 2: Presentation Approval under Grades.

Air Quality: Planning the Presentation Instructions
Directions: Create a PowerPoint presentation recommending the use of the Air Quality Flag Program to an organization using the template provided. See the assignment directions and tutorial for suggestions and best practices. Review the week’s readings prior to starting on your presentation and understand the Air Quality Flag Program before starting this assignment.
1. Identify an organization that could benefit from the Air Quality Flag Program.
a. Ideas: schools, churches, nursing homes, hospitals, daycares (places where vulnerable populations may have outdoor activities)
b. Reach out to the organization’s leadership to set up a time you can present your findings and information about the Air Quality Flag Program.
i. You are encouraged to have a few organizations in mind in case of rejection or conflicting schedules.
c. You are only required to have one leadership member present for presentation, but more are encouraged and welcome. If more than one person in leadership is interested, you can present to all at the same time or individually. You are encouraged to set a date and time(s) for your presentation for some time Saturday of Week 5 through Saturday of Week 6 to allow ample time to complete the Week 6 Part 4 Evaluation assignment.
2. Conduct additional research related to air quality and the problem as identified in your Community Health Assessment and Diagnosis assignment findings.
3. Download the PowerPoint Presentation Template.
4. Create a PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes (8-15 slides not including introduction or references) for the organizational leadership that includes:
· Community description
· Basic demographic data (i.e. population, size, education, poverty levels, etc.)
· Relevant epidemiological data from Community Assessment and Diagnosis assignment.
· Including lung disease data in your community. This data should relate to the vulnerable populations that the organization cares for. Example: If you are presenting to a school, then childhood asthma cases are relevant. If you are presenting to a nursing home, then COPD data is relevant, if you are presenting to a church, then all data may be relevant.
· Problem description
Comprehensive overview of pollution and air quality concerns.
· Include any contributing factors specific to your community (e.g. location—is it near a factory or something known for releasing toxins? Are there agricultural activities nearby? Do people leave their cars running during hot or cold seasons that emit exhaust in areas were vulnerable populations are outside? Is there a landfill nearby?)

For a Windows PC
Step 1: Open your Powerpoint. Verify that the speaker notes are present below the slide. Click on File.
Step 2: Under File, scroll down and click on Print. Find Printer.
Step 3: Click on the drop down options under Printer. Select Print to PDF.
Step 4: Under Settings, select Print All Slides.
Step 5: Under Settings below Print All Slides, click on Full Page Slides and change it to Notes Pages

Step 7: Name your new PDF document and Save it to a location on your computer.
