NURS6003 Week 1 Assignment Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 1: Developing an Academic and Professional Network
When was the last time you read Meditation XVII of John Donne’s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions?
Unless you are a student of seventeeth-century poetry, you may not be all that familiar with this piece. However, you may be much more familiar with one of its well-known phrases: “No man is an island…”.
As you begin your journey toward achieving your academic and professional goals, you have a great opportunity to network with academics and professionals who can help ensure you do not travel alone. This network can help to clarify your own vision for success and can help guide you now and in the future. To paraphrase Donne, no one is an island.
Begin creating an academic and professional network by identifying which academic and professional connections and resources with which you need to collaborate to succeed in your MSN program and as a practicing nurse.
To Prepare:
Consider individuals, departments, teams, and/or resources within Walden University and within your profession that you believe can support your academic and professional success.
Identify at least two academic and at least two professional individuals, colleagues, or teams that might help you succeed in your MSN program and as a practicing nurse.

NURS6003 Transition to Graduate Study Week 11 Assignment Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 6: Finalizing the Plan
At some point in every construction project, efforts turn from design and the focus moves to actual construction. With the vision in place and the tools secured, the blueprint can be finalized and approved. Then it is time to put on hardhats and begin work.
Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have thought a great deal about your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.

Academic success and professional development plan
As a MSN student and practicing nurse, there are two professional teams who would be suitable for collaborations. The two professional individuals are a preceptor and nursing professional development specialist (NPDS). The two would be responsible for offering guidance on the clinical aspects of nursing practice while using encouragement, skill and knowledge. Regularly meetings with the two professionals can allow nurses to assess their progress as they gain comfort in their new position, determine the resources, support and training required for successful careers, and evaluate competencies. To be more precise, the preceptor and NPDS have skills and knowledge of leadership, continuing education, program development and management, career development, and learning principles that are useful to nurse practitioners. Their identities and positions are based on the science of education, leadership, communication, change, evidence-based practice, research, technology and nursing as they pertain to nursing professional development. Through their experience, the preceptor and NPDS would help me to engage in lifelong learning to facilitate achievement of practice career and academic goals, advance professional nursing practice, and develop and maintain my competencies (Porter-O’Grady & Malloch, 2016). NURS-6003, week 3 Assignment, Academic success and professional development plan
In addition to that, the responsibility of the two professional individuals extend to a range of nursing care environments and practice settings, allowing them to facilitate the learning experience of persons seeking to become nurses. Within the clinical setting outside the school MSN program, the two professional individuals would seek to manage, precept and orient nurses who have newly graduated to work at the point of care. Besides that, they would support quality improvement, evidence-based practice and nursing practice through professional nurse development. This occurs through working with a wide range of tiered academically prepared nurses, learning needs and competencies across all care environments and practice settings. Additionally, they partner with nurse leaders and health care providers to ensure an efficient, effective and safe care environment through involvement in nursing practice excellence, evidence-based practice implementation, research, leadership, return on investment, continuing education, competencies management, portfolio and program development, clinical and academic education, and project management (Fitzpatrick, Ea & Bai, 2017).
Five roles of the two professional individuals are evident. Firstly, they act as mentors who guide nurses through the many pathways of their careers, offering advice on resume and curriculum vitae writing, specialty selection, and the many possibilities of future development. Secondly, they act as servant leaders who integrate leadership, service and ethical principles to provide guidance, protection, boundaries, support, respect and encouragement to influence professional transition. Thirdly, they act as researchers to facilitate evidence-based practice by evaluating, integrating, translating, collaborating and advising research through reflective discussion, education and practice. Fourthly, they act as change agents who identify nursing issues and link them to quality indicators and latest evidence through information sharing, in-services and learning activities. In fact, they engage in inter- and intra-professional discussions for incorporating change, team building and problem-solving to address organization and individual needs. NURS-6003, week 3 Assignment, Academic success and professional development plan. Finally, they act as educators who assess a nurse’s learning needs, competencies, strengths and opportunities for improving technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills while evaluating outcomes and offering feedback (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Overall, preceptors and NPDS are specialists who embody the unique experiences, insights, skills and knowledge of nurses, have advanced their practice into academic, continuing education and staff development, and whose functions can be summarized as contributing to the lifelong ethical practice development and learning of nurses.

Academic resources and strategies
Part 1.
Academic resources are important for students in the MSN program since it enhances their learning experiences through offering helpful learning opportunities, services and resources, and through encouraging a supportive campus community. There are three academic resources that are particularly useful to MSN students. The first resource is the libraries that offer literature in specific fields there by allowing students to access these resources. The libraries are offered as a physical building from which students can access hard copies of publications, and a virtual environment that only require students to use login information online through computer technology to access soft copies of publications. NURS-6003, week 3 Assignment, Academic success and professional development plan. The second resource is the students’ essentials portal that informs students about important dates in the university calendar and allows them to organize their personal and academic activities around these important dates. In addition, the portal contains the most current contact information for the student, academics and financial services to facilitate the student in managing his/her campus life. The third resource is the student center, an online portal that requires login information unique to each student and allows them to conduct registration and enrollment activities online (Jeffreys, 2012).
Part 2.
There are a range of professional resources that are available to nurses, informing them about the professional practice standards and policies within a jurisdiction. The first resource is the American Nurses Association (ANA) that presents the practices and policies on innovation and ethics that act as the foundation that allow the nursing profession to be trusted in the USA. In addition, ANA offers nursing certification that validates whether or not an individual has the skills required to be successful in the nursing profession. Besides that, ANA offers up-to-date information on the latest developments in health and nursing care. The second resource is the American Association of Colleges of Nursing that informs nurses about the latest trends in professional nursing education so that students are well informed about what a competent nursing education program entails and where to enroll for such programs. The third resource is job resource center that offers the tools, expertise, services and resources to allow nurses to conduct an effective job search within a defined geographical area (Georgia State University, 2019) NURS-6003, week 3 Assignment, Academic success and professional development plan.
Part 3.
The identified academic and professional resources are useful to nurses. The academic resources are available through online platforms thus allowing students to proceed with academic activities even when they are away from the school’s physical address. For instance, students can use the student center to register and enroll for academic programs without having to travel to the school. Secondly, it allows students to access academic material that would be difficult to access on their own without help. This is particularly true for the library that allows students to acquire textbooks and journal articles that would be expensive to purchase. Thirdly, it enhances the learning experience by offering customized course materials and ‘perfect’ course instructions that allow students to acquire useful skills and knowledge. As a result, the academic resources are convenient, allowing students to save on time and money while improving the learning experience (Jeffreys, 2012).
Professional resources are useful in informing students about the latest occurrences in the professional environment. NURS-6003, week 3 Assignment, Academic success and professional development plan. For instance, informing them about new practice requirements so that they are well prepared. In addition, they are useful for networking purposes, offering forums in which students can engage with each other and other nurses to exchange information and ideas. Besides that, they facilitate efforts to ensure that students conform to the legislative requirements for practice through summarizing these requirements and ensuring that they meet them. Finally, they are useful in regulating the practice environment and maintaining public trust since they take on the responsibility of policing practice and ensuring that only qualified and competent persons are allowed to practice (Jeffreys, 2012).

All of our essay writing service products are 100% original, ensuring that there is no plagiarism in them. The sources are well-researched and cited so it is interesting. Our goal is to help as many students as possible with their assignments, i.e. our prices are affordable and services premium.
- Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, including a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words. Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source. One or two-sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words. I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
- Weekly Participation
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately. In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies. Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work). Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
- APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with the APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required). Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation. I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
- Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage over-utilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Master’s level and deduct points accordingly. As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content. It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source. NURS 6003 All Assignments
- LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to Lopes Write, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me. Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes. Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own? Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
- Late Policy
The university’s policy on late assignments is a 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies. Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances. If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect. I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension. As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
- Communication
Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me: Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class. Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours. NURS 6003 All Assignments
