Current Events Assignment
Please remember the following guidelines:
- Choose a recent news article (within the last year) — not a research journal article.
- The purpose is to connect developmental psychology to the real world.
- Provide a clear summary of the article.
- Make a strong, specific connection between the event and a course concept.
- Go beyond simply naming the concept — discuss the implications or significance of the event. What does this tell us about development? Why does it matter?
- Include a properly formatted APA reference for your article.

- Explain how it relates to a concept from class (2–3 paragraphs).
- Include the full reference or link to the article.
Rubric (20 points total):
- Article Summary (6 pts): Clear, accurate, and concise.
- Connection to Course Content (6 pts): Demonstrates understanding by applying at least one developmental psychology concept.
- Critical Thinking (4 pts): Goes beyond description to reflect on implications or importance.
- Organization & Writing (4 pts): Clear, professional writing with correct grammar and proper APA reference.
