Compose a Personal Reflection

Compose a Personal Reflection

Your assignment this week is to engage in a self-reflection to help you prepare to implement EFT in an ethical manner. This involves attending to whether or not a couple is appropriate for EFT and exploring whether or not you are emotionally ready to implement EFT. Because EFT is such an emotionally intense approach, part of being an ethical therapist is to ensure that you are managing any effects of your personal attachment history. Follow the prompts below to structure your reflection:

  • What are ethical concerns specific to EFT?
  • What couples are a good fit for EFT? Which couples are not a good fit for EFT?
  • How will your personal attachment history influence your responses to withdrawing partners and/or pursuing partners? Will you feel pulled to identify with one over the other?
  • How comfortable are you with vulnerability, experiencing emotion, expressing emotion, and responding to emotion with empathy?
  • Do you feel emotionally prepared to do the interventions and tasks of EFT? What can you do to be more prepared? What, if any, attachment injuries do you need to resolve in your own life to ensure you are present while conducting EFT?
  • How do you anticipate learning EFT will affect you and your own relationships?

Length: 3-4 pages, not including title and reference pages
