Psychology Question
Reflecting on Care EthicsAfter narrating your day guided by care (Week 2 Discussion assignment), in a care-based society discussion, answer these prompts to explore the usefulness and potential drawbacks of care ethics (approximately 300 words).
- Do you notice any difference in your sense of morality in this care-based world?
- Were the core values of care ethics helpful (or unhelpful) for making moral choices and making decisions?
- Did the principles of care ethics empower you to make good decisions, or did you encounter situations where it felt inadequate in resolving moral matters?
- What transformations would take place if care ethics were to become the norm for how we relate to one another? Would there be disarray, harmony, stagnation, evolution, or something else entirely? Write this paper based off my week 2 discussion which is below. "When I wake up in a world guided by care ethics, I do not begin by asking what benefits only me. I ask who depends on my actions today. The ethic of care views individuals as relational and interdependent, and hence my morning habits include mindfulness towards my family, the neighbors, the animals, and the environment. I pray, join my Muslimah sister group on Zoom, get my children ready for school, and sometimes I call my sisters on the phone. During this time, I conserve water, and I may or may not eat breakfast. I make sure my recycling bins and trash are set out to the curb for pickup, but I also clean up any trash I may see that was blown into my front yard. This impact helps with keeping the environment clean.I come across a homeless man on my way to the grocery store. I do not pass by him as an issue, but instead I know that this person has needs, history, and dignity. I purchase him breakfast, talk respectfully, and I support those local services that provide housing and addiction recovery without judging him. This is responsible, as care cannot just be made of feeling concerned; it needs to be taken.I pay attention to discussion by listening before I speak during drop-off for my little ones at school. I do not get upset and give attitudes when I am given any updates for school closing or events that may cost me money. Potty training my little ones is challenging due to age and one being on the spectrum, so I take all the advice that I receive, understanding that the teachers or one-on-one aide is helping and being very supportive. My reactions include kindness, discretion, and pragmatic support. According to Antonio and Beer (2024), care entails experiencing the other, making sense of responsibilities, as well as being able to balance needs and resources at hand. That is, I cannot do it all by myself, but I need to be honest where I can answer.I understand care ethics as a communal form of life by evening. Attentiveness, responsiveness, and shared responsibility are organized within the streets, schools, workplaces, and policies. The thankful one completes my day, since being moral is all about relationships.
