I live and work in an oil field area in South Texas. The biggest controversy in the community is that there is so much oilfield pollution in the county, the work areas, the urban areas, the streets, and anywhere the employees and companies are. Pop-up management sites have been built with chemical storage tanks and other hazardous materials to maintain the chemicals. Some of these are being built in rural areas, but most have been built inside the city limits right near downtown. There are often spills from the chemicals involved in drilling and fracking. The county is small and only consists of 10,000 people, so there is only one remediation site in the immediate vicinity. According to texas.gov (NOV 2022) it has been abandoned and referred to the Texas Railroad Commission. Texas does, however, have over 150 Superfund sites, with 10 being within 60 miles of the area.

The San Antonio River runs through most of the land in the county; a big concern is that oil debris and spills will run off into the water and seep into nearby drinking tanks for the cattle and livestock in the area. The oil boom has brought the county back to life with permanent jobs and growth, yet it has caused many issues with pollution.
