Overview
As a doctoral student, it is vital to go beyond learning about topics and moving to synthesis, integration, and application of learning. In this course, the learning focuses around current empirically supported treatments of trauma, but this final presentation moves the learning to your own integration of this learning as it impacts your own theory of counseling. The presentation also allows for expression of future application of this learning to offer a rich and dynamic demonstration of the learning you have done with these empirically supported treatments and specifically how this learning has impacted your trauma focus in counseling.
In this assignment, you will synthesize the learning from the course and present an empirically sound personal theory of counseling with a trauma focus. You can present this theory with a presentation style that best fits where you are in your professional journey—whether licensed, pre-licensed, or in the teaching phase of your career.

If you are a licensed mental health professional or you work under the supervision of a licensed
mental health professional, you have the opportunity to choose any of the options.
If you are not licensed as a mental health professional, you are limited to (1) and (3) as your
potential projects. - 1. The Integrated Trauma Treatment Presentation involves you putting together the
empirical approaches from class with your current counseling theoretical orientation to
present your existing working model for treating clients with PTSD. Include Christian
worldview that a provider may need to consider for a client with this background. The
presentation may be done as a PowerPoint, Prezi, or other software. Upload the presentation
via hyperlink.
Develop a narrated presentation using Microsoft Office Mix, narrated PowerPoint.
YouTube video, Videoscribe, or other communication software to describe your
model.
A minimum of 40 slides with content (not including title page, Table of Contents,
References, etc.) should be included.
Rather than in-text citations on your slides, put these in the Speaker Notes section and
in some reference slides at the end of your presentation. You may also have your
reference pages in a separate attached document if you like.
The presentation should include no fewer than 15 scholarly sources.

2. The Case Presentation of an Application of Empirically Supported Treatment consists
of an analysis of your therapeutic or ministerial work applying an empirically supported
treatment to a client with PTSD. This may be a case from your past work or current. A
prerequisite for choosing this option for current work with a client is licensure or
supervision by a licensed mental health professional, adequate training in the empirically
supported approach, and the availability of consultation, if needed in its application.
Choosing and sharing this option will help the class see what it looks like to apply ESTs in
human services counseling work. Include Christian worldview integration information, if
applicable. If it was not applicable, state how the cultural or religious background of the
client was considered in the approach. The case will be de-identified in accordance with current APA and ACA ethical guidelines on how to report a case study (use a pseudonym, alter age slightly, do not report precise city, etc.). 3. Role-Play Demonstration involves you demonstrating an application of a cognitive
processing therapy or prolonged exposure therapy model with a student peer in a mock 30–
45-minute session. EMDR is not permitted as a role play since specific certifications are
needed for that treatment (unless you already have these certifications). For example, you
might videotape the fifth module of CPT in working with a peer “client”. The student client
applies a role-play situation that does not involve a real personal trauma, rather, is fictional.
Briefly introduce the client’s history and demographics, how the modules have progressed in
prior sessions, and then share the role-play of what the fifth module looked like in working
together. Another option is that you might record a mock session doing prolonged exposure
with a student peer on a fictitious trauma. Provide a brief introduction of the client’s history,
and then do the demonstration. Watch the demonstration before submitting it and write some
self-evaluation comments on how you think you did and what you might do differently if you
could do the session again. Thus, you will submit your video and 2 pages of self-evaluation
(or you can add some video self-evaluation comments after you have viewed your video).
Several software programs would permit you to record the role-play demonstration online
with your peer. For example, Skype for Business permits you to record a session. No
references are needed for this option, but a clear integration of the course learning and self-
