Overview
The Course Capstone Project is a research and analysis project sustained throughout the course. You are expected to complete work on your Course Capstone Project each week.
The product of your research and analysis will be a 2100–2450 word professional-quality proposal to create a partnership or coalition that will have a positive impact on a health issue you select. First, you will select a health issue and the target population that will be impacted by the issue. Then you will develop a plan to create a partnership or coalition that will help you engage your target community and organize resources around the public health issue. Use project template to complete the requirements for Part 1 of your Capstone Project, detailed as follows:
Your tasks this week:
- Brainstorm a list of public health issues that affect populations around you (e.g., your city, family, workplace, neighborhood, etc.). Or you can choose the health issue selected for your CHL/610 Course Capstone Project and move directly to conducting research steps in this week’s tasks.
- Choose 2 or 3 issues that interest you most and conduct research to find out more about these issues. Have they been widely studied? What populations are most affected? What types of interventions have been proposed?
- Focus on 1 of these topics for your research.
- Conduct research to identify articles relevant to your health issue and the target population. Begin reading and taking notes on the articles you find.
- Write a 150- to 175-word summary describing your brainstorming session.
- Explain what topic you plan to focus on for your Course Capstone and why.
- Include bibliographic information on at least 2 articles you have read or plan to read.
Treat the Course Capstone Project as a portfolio assignment that you can present to potential employers and/or utilize in your upcoming Field Experience courses. You want to be able to demonstrate that you can do the following:
- Explain a public health issue.
- Write a problem statement.
- Describe the mission and vision of a partnership.
- Explain the structure of a partnership.
- Design a sustainability model.
Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.
Cite a total of 2 sources—1 needs to be a scholarly peer reviewed source; the second can be any credible source.
