Overview
Pepperdine has recently digitized back issues of the Graphic and made them available online. 291 issues were published in the 1960s. For this exercise, you will skim at least 20 of those back issues, looking at how the civil rights movements were (or were not) experienced on Pepperdine's campus in L.A. Most of the movements really picked up in the 1968-69, so be sure to look at the Graphic from the end of the century as well as the beginning.
Essay prompt: Browse at least 20 issues of the Graphic from the 1960s, available at the link above, making note of items related to the social movements and civil rights movements of the time. Write an essay answering one of more of the following questions based on what you found: How were the civil rights movements experienced at Pepperdine? How was Pepperdine impacted by them, and how did Pepperdine contribute to them? How did the Graphic report on them? What is left out of their reporting, and why?
