One social problem cited in both the Pew Research and Statistica surveys is the prevalence of crime in the US. The problem of crime, like many social problems is not an isolated issue, but one that is closely related to other issues--economic issues, mental health, family and social life, racism, etc. Because this issue is so connected to other issues, there have been recent efforts to focus more on addressing the related issues rather than focusing on being "tough on crime." Others argue that while these other issues are important, neglecting to address crime will not bring the improvements hoped for. Finally, others, argue that there needs to be a balance between both approaches and seek to find the "happy medium."
