Discussion Thread: Dissertation Progress Update - Module 2
During this week I wanted to re-review chapters 1 & 2 outline and organize it better. After reviewing my first two chapters and seeing where things can be changed, tweaked, and added too, I am beginning to change part of the paper to be clearer. Having an outline to follow family values in the U.S. as part of my Coptic Christian faith and finding how family ideology has changed the landscape of Christian thought and its influence on youth today, will be a big part in giving a clear understanding how things may or may not have changed Coptic thought. In the course of building the picture of what the landscape looks like of Christian vs. secular thought I want to see its influence and in order to do so I need to read so much literature on the subject. This week is more research in the literature and seeing if it fits in understanding that picture. In Proverbs 16:16, “How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” In looking through the picture and trying to gain understanding of the familial and marriage landscape I am trying to also be wise in how this picture can influence Christian thought on marriage and family as I interview Coptic youth later from ages 13-21

Module 2 goals entailed thoroughly engaging in the Liberty Dissertation Handbook. In doing so, I realized that I was not completely clear on a few of the requirements regarding Chapter II: Literature Review. Hence where my focus of progress has been placed. I have focused on obtaining more data to support my topic of discussion and ensuring that I have the required number of pages. I also reached out to two previous classmates to not only bounce ideas, but as a support system.
Great progress was made in refining and extending Chapter II: Literature Review, and I will continue to work towards its completion, moving then to complete Chapter III: Methodology, establishing a concrete argument for defending my dissertation. I will identify the appropriate contact to whom I would have to seek approval after successful completion of proposal defense for the IRB process.
A challenge faced this past week has primarily been balancing the aftermath of a natural disaster, death, and making sure that I engaged in the work every day. I also realized that I lost track of time, and need to set personal alarms to meet deadlines, such as Thursday postings. I am also having some struggles with creating my Tables for illustration.
I am nervous, but confident that I will complete the task set forth as Philippians 1:6-7 is a reminder that God is faithful to complete that which He has begun in me (New International Bible, 1978/2011).
