Social workers seek social justice and advocate for groups that are often on the fringes of society. The attached survey addresses many groups that social workers may encounter. Complete the survey and essay, then upload it as one document.
ASSIGNMENT: PART 1 Complete the following questionnaire honestly, knowing that NONE of your answers will help you or be held against you in any way. This is a self-exploration assignment only, and helps you and me understand where students are regarding different populations and issues. Use this as an opportunity to be honest with yourself and the issues. For each item, imagine the person or situation is right in front of you, and place an “X” in the blank under the column that most correctly identifies your current feelings. You will only lose points for this part of the questionnaire if you do NOT mark each question.
Please read the instructions on the handout below before beginning this assignment (the Values & Self worksheet that has to be used has been uploaded). (My name is Kim Wilis, For the race I'm Black/African American, for the chosen major it's Interdisciplinary Studies, # of semesters is 4, and for age I'm 54) I have also uploaded the rubric for this assignment.
ASSIGNMENT: PART II After completing the questionnaire, in a 1-2 page, APA-style essay (with title page, no reference page needed), comment on which client population(s) and issue(s) you feel most uncomfortable working with, why you think you feel this way, and how you imagine you would handle the scenario. At this point in your education, there may be MANY populations you are uncomfortable working with.
