I have chosen the painting Sonia Delaunay-Terk, Clothing and Customized Citroen B-12 to evaluate for the Principles of Design. Although this painting has many Principles of Design, I enjoy the history of this Artist Sonia Delaunay-Terk being the first living women to have a solo exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris. I also feel that her artwork shows us a picture of what it was like to be a female during this time period.
In this painting Clothing and Customized Citroen B-12 we see several Principles of Design. One of the Principles of Design used is Pattern and is shown on both the car and standing female. The pattern is heavy on both the car and the females clothing but is not distracting to the main focus of the painting. The second Principles of Design used is Contrast. There are many different Contrast's shown in this painting, but the main Contrast I see is in the windows. One set of windows is even squares while the other set of windows are stain glass. The third Principles of Design is Harmony. This Principle is shown in the light fixture. The light fixture is made of several rectangles to make one large circle. The last Principles of Design I see is Emphasis. This Principle is shown with both of the women pictured. Although it seems like the Emphasis would be on the clothing and the car, I am drawn to both women pictured. They are pictured as strong independent women.
