criminal justice

Overview

please respond with 150. words

In Chapter 17, we discussed Justification versus Excuse and the statement was made that criminal law represents a moral compass to assist people in deciding what path they should take in particular cirumstances.

Discuss whether or not you feel criminal law is effective in preventing or deterring crime, as a "guiding moral compass." What, if any, are other sources of "moral guidance" that people should use in determining their behavior? So, for example, do we only refrain from doing things because they are illegal, or are their other reasons we refrain from doing certain things?
