1.- The Role of Policy: My opinion on how effective are current criminal justice policies is that criminal justice policies face significant challenges and most of the time are criticized for their effectiveness, is a complex issue with mixed results. For example, the "Three Strikes" Law focus on controlling, the purpose of this law is that repeatedly offenders convicted of serious offenses should be removed from society for a long period of time. Focusing on prevention by Implementing stricter gun laws regulates the sale, possession, and the use of firearms. For Example, "1 in 30" law, which prohibits residents from purchasing more than one firearms within a 30 day period.
2.- Moral Panics and Policy: Moral panic can prompt significant to policy alterations. As a mom with having kids at school, the only thing I can think about is school shootings. The trauma of a school shooting can have lasting effects on the entire community. In response to shootings, thankfully policies were made focusing on prevention, intervention and support. Focusing on restricting access to guns, developing school safety plans, and access to mental health services.
3.- Critical Reflection: The 1967 President's Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice found that law enforcement was poorly educated, trained and led. I do believe that the criminal justice system has made progress because now they have better screening, higher qualifications for police officers, greater cooperation between local, state and federal agencies and better training and education.
