Overview
Directions: For this assignment, you are assigned a case to research and respond to key prompts. There are three different scenarios, and they are pre-assigned (see below) by last name.
Scenario 1:
You are the hospital administrator for a community hospital in a rural south GA town of Claxton, in Evans County. Your hospital is a critical access hospital with 52 beds with two intensive care beds and a three-room emergency department. There is not always a full staff because you rarely have more than 10 admitted patients. Your hospital does have an operating room, but the surgeon and staff aren’t always available. They are, however, on duty today and will arrive in about 30 minutes for their 6:00 AM start. It’s 5:30 AM and you just received an urgent phone call from your local EMS director informing you that there has been a multiple vehicle accident on the interstate (I-16), just 15 minutes away and there are approximately 30 patients, with 20 of them critically injured and 10 of which are children. The next closest regional hospital is limited on how many patients it can take because it is dealing with a bunch of alcohol poisoning cases from the local college post-game celebration. The weather is overcast so helicopter EMS for transport to the trauma center and pediatric hospital an hour away is not an option now, but the weather is due to clear up. How would you prepare your hospital for this type of situation?
