Self-Report Studies

  • Self-Report studies are important for understanding juvenile delinquency because these directly ask the youth about their behavior. These can help outsiders understand any underlying factors that may contribute to any juvenile delinquency such as peer influence and money status. We can also use these studies to identify any common trends in juvenile crimes. Moreover, self-report studies provide an accurate picture of delinquency which can aide in the creation of more, effective prevention and intervention programs.
  • One limitation of using this type of data could be its accuracy, in terms of the youths who may fill these self-reports out, may lie or withhold certain information.
