Writing Assignment #2 Prompt
For this writing assignment, you have two options. You can write about the documentary 13th or you can write about a community event you were able to attend.
Option 1:
Attend a community event near you addressing a social issue. It can be on police brutality, healthy food options, gentrification, etc. At the community event notice how people are socializing, what are the speakers talking about. Do you notice any disparities/inequalities?
Describe the event’s topic, how many people attended, and where it took place. Choose one of the theories discussed in class such as conflict, social interaction, functionalism, feminism, and critical race theory and analyze the event using a theoretical perspective.
Option 2:
Watch the Documentary 13th. Describe the documentary, the problem, and the characters. What are the characters’ stories? How do their stories amplify the documentary’s plot and social issue? Choose one of the theories discussed in class such as conflict, social interaction, functionalism, feminism, and critical race theory and analyze the documentary using a theoretical perspective.

All of your papers are to be typed in MLA or APA format
- 3-4 pages
- Use Times Roman 12-pint type when typing your paper
- Format your paper with 1-inch margins all around
- Double space between sentences
- Make sure you use the appropriate citations to document any research you do. Do not plagiarize any of your work. See the section regarding Academic Honesty in your student Handbook.
