What surprised me most about the Edgar Allan Poe daguerreotype was how much it ended up being worth and how rare of a photo it really was. I was shocked that for less than a 100$ purchase price, it was worth an estimated 75,000$ (2018) but with inflation it would be worth upwards of 97,000$. I was also surprised at how rare of a photo it was, being one of only an estimated six daguerreotypes of Poe.

I found watching the video on daguerreotypes very interesting. The extensive process of developing a photo through this process was something I'd never thought about. I also think it's very cool to have a metal portrait as they last longer than the paper we have now. I heard in the antique roadshow video that daguerreotype photos are very fragile and that you wouldn't want to touch or even blow on them too hard. I still think these types of photos would still be a very cool item to own.

I found the "Calotype Process" reading very interesting. I was surprised to find that many photographers/developers would alter or touch up the photos during development. Due to the photos being processed on regular drawing paper they were able to touch them up with a simple pencil. I was intrigued to learn that a form of Photoshop or photo altering can be traced back to the 1830s-1840s.
