Overview
The example at the start of this session was of a person wanting to build a house. The builder needs tools and needs to know how to use them. The previous lectures have described various laws and moral philosophies, but how do we use them in business? Let’s take an example from the textbook and walk through an application of these tools.
Look at the Ethical Dilemma at the start of Chapter 7. Consider Jon’s perspective on the situation and his actions in response to his manager’s instructions to bypass safety protocols in order to deliver on an important contract.
Identify some moral philosophies (from the lectures or chapter) that appear to be influencing Jon’s behaviors or the behaviors of his manager, co-workers, and subordinates?
What virtues has Jon demonstrated?
What laws might the company be violating in the case?
