The face page is the first page of a law enforcement report. It contains essential identifying information about the crime occurred and parties involved. It also contains a brief synopsis of what took place.
The continuation page is used when the information is too much to fit on one page. It continues the main body of your report.
A follow up report is to provide new information not previously documented on the original report. It can include updates, new information, and actions taken since initial report. A follow up is not always necessary. If there is enough information provided during the initial investigation, then a case can be closed during that time and a follow up report is not needed.
Supplementary reports can include the waiver, receipts, release, test results, lab results, or other forms used for investigation purposes. Supplementary reports can also strengthen your report by providing proof and/or evidence that support your statements.
The importance of writing in logical and chronological order is to make it easy for you reader to understand the sequence of events. You want your reader to be able to follow a timeline to be able to follow what occurred. You also want you reader to be able to visualize what took place and understand the facts of the reports. Writing in chronological order also makes it easy to locate certain information quickly. Writing out of order can confuse the timeline and hide important details. It can also mislead readers about what actually took place.
