Review Example of 1st Class Assignment
Your 1st Class Assignment will be assigned next week. It is strongly recommended that you review all the material on this example page, as it will help clarify the assignment instructions. Please note that this is for review purposes only. The entire 1st Class Assignment with instructions and the due date will be posted next week.
Watch the 55-second video below, "You don't understand! This is an Alaia!"
'You don't understand ! This is an Alaia' ! Clueless, 1995 (youtube.com)Links to an external site.
After watching the video, it was important to determine what crime you have. It was determined that the California Penal Code that fit the crime that occurred was California Penal Code 211 - Robbery. The key elements of Robbery under PC 211 are:
- Taking Property: Robbery involves taking someone else’s property directly from them.
- Immediate Presence: The taking must occur in the victim’s immediate presence.
- Force or Fear: The property is taken by using force or by instilling fear in the victim.
If we have all the elements for PC 211, then we have a robbery.
Next, you begin your report. For the purposes of the victim interview, the writer will write the report as if the victim told the officer what happened, in the past tense. Remember, not all boxes apply to every report. If it does not apply, leave it blank. The four forms needed for a criminal report are a CR1 (Face Page), CR2 (Narrative), CR3 (Evidence sheet), and CR4 (Disposition Page). Each form is listed below with the necessary information for the robbery report. The final report is attached below.
CR1 INFORMATION:
Case Number: VVC1004
BEAT: VVC
Reporting District: VVC
Date / Time of Incident: Monday, February 26, 2024, at 5:00 P.M.
Victim information: Shirley Lynn Temple, (Date of Birth: 01/01/1990), age 34, resides at 555 Main Street in Hesperia, CA 92345, Not employed, White / Female (W/F), Cell (909)867-5309.
Incident Occurred: In the parking lot of Johnny's Liquor Store, located at 777 Valley Street, Hesperia
Suspect Information: Unknown name, White / Male (W/M). Since we do not have his name, age, etc., we can look at his approximate description, which is what our victim told us. His approximate age is 35, his approximate height is 5'07, and his approximate weight is 185. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket with a grey hoodie, black jeans, and tan shoes.
Synopsis:
Keep in mind your synopsis needs to be short and sweet and make sure you have the elements of your crime listed in the synopsis.
While in the parking lot of Johnny's Liquor Store, an unknown suspect pointed a handgun at the victim's head and stole her cellular phone and designer handbag, then made her get down and count to 100. The suspect fled on foot.
CR2 INFORMATION:
Now you will form your headings. Remember, headings are to the left, capitalized, underlined, and a semicolon:
ASSIGNMENT / ARRIVAL:
On Monday, February 26, 2024, at 5:00 P.M., I was dispatched to a robbery call at Johnny's Liquor Store at 777 Valley Street in Hesperia. I arrived on scene at 5:00 P.M.
VICTIM INTERVIEW:
On Monday, February 26, 2024, at 5:00 P.M., I interviewed Shirley while at the scene. The following is a summary of her statement.
Shirley had just finished her shift at Johnny’s Liquor Store. She walked to the back parking lot to call a cab company using her cellphone. An unknown suspect approached Temple, then pointed a handgun at the right side of her head and said, “Hand it over! Give me the phone!” The suspect took Temple’s cellular phone and demanded her Alaia-designed handbag. The suspect instructed Temple to get down on the ground, face down, and count to 100. Temple told the suspect, “You don’t understand this is an Alaia!” The suspect then pointed the firearm at the right side of Temple’s head and said, “And I will totally shoot you in the head!” Temple got down on the ground and counted to 100. The suspect fled on foot north of the location. Temple could identify the suspect if she saw him again, but had never seen him before this incident.
This concluded Temple’s statement.
The two shaded areas are a must with every interview, whether it is for a victim, witness, or suspect. I know it seems redundant, but this needs to be included with every interview. Everything in the middle is what your person told you (or in the case of our course, what you see in the video then writing it as if your victim told you this).
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:
The suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 35 years old, 5'07", 185 pounds, with a goatee, last seen wearing: a brown jacket with a grey hoodie, black jeans, and tan shoes with black shoelaces (ANY OTHER DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE SUSPECT WOULD GO HERE - IF YOU SEE MORE IN THE VIDEO, ADD IT).
SUSPECT WEAPON DESCRIPTION:
The suspect weapon was described as a silver handgun (ANY OTHER DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE SUSPECT HANDGUN WOULD GO HERE - IF YOU SEE MORE IN THE VIDEO, ADD IT).
PROPERTY STOLEN:
The property stolen was a black Motorola cellular phone with serial # GHYUTTT, valued at $200.00, and a maroon designer handbag valued at $500.00.
EVIDENCE:
I collected the video surveillance from Johnny's Liquor Store. The video was placed into evidence under barcode #7575.
AREA CHECK:
I conducted an area check for the suspect with negative results.
DISPOSITION:
There are no additional leads at this time. Forward the report to the detective bureau for review.
CR3 INFORMATION:
Code Section: P.C.211
Recovering DIV/Station: VVC
Case Number: VVC 1004
Case Agent and Employee Number / Property Recovered by and Employee Number: Your first initial and Last name and Employee Number A1234.
The property recovered was the video surveillance, and the property stolen was the Designer Bag and Cellular Phone.
***The CR3 has multiple uses. Therefore, we can list our stolen property and evidence recovered here.
Add your name, employee number, and six-digit date at the bottom.
CR4 INFORMATION:
The CR4 is similar to the CR1. You will find the information on each page is redundant, but needs to be listed. Boxes 1-17 can all be found on your CR1. I know Box 16 is listed twice on your CR4; disregard this one, which should say Box 17. As I previously mentioned, not all boxes are used for each report. If it does not apply to you, leave it blank. Box 29 applies to our robbery, so I checked those boxes. Also, Box 42 and your disposition on your CR2 need the same information.
Do not forget Boxes 43-46. For Box 43, I checked, and there are no additional leads.
** I have attached a final CR1, CR2, CR3, and CR4 below. Remember, your report could have more or fewer headings or details. It is your report. You need to have all of the important details, and your report needs to be in logical and chronological order.
