This week I chose to imitate the style of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Bresson captures spontaneous moments in his subjects lives. Often the subjects are active and in movement which can be seen by their blurred figures. I was most inspired by his photos that use stair cases and railings to frame and give shape to his photos, combined with his use of a birds eye view. He also uses destroyed buildings, trees, and the brick buildings of New York City to add shape and interest to his photos. An other wise normal and mundane moment in time is transformed into art by the use of lines and shape.

I focused on using the straight lines and square shape of my apartment's stairwell to help imitate the shapes that Henri Cartier-Bresson used. I noticed that in these photographs his subjects weren't typically centered or focused on, I seemed to focus more on the similarity in lines and shape within his photos. I chose to have my subject not centered and blurred as well to help the effect be successful.

I also imitated Bresson's use of cool tones as well as black and white. While I'm very limited in editing skills I attempted to capture the same colors and tones that Bresson used. If I had a better light source from the window just out of frame, I would've used the light rays to add another straight line/shadow to my photo. Similarly to how Bresson uses the light source and shadows to build shape in a few of his outdoor photos. IMG_9784.jpeg
