Overview
Students will compare and contrast elements of different therapies within the context of a clinical case scenario (to be provided by the instructor). Specific guidelines are as follows:
- Select three different therapies discussed this semester and apply to the case scenario posted on Canvas. (The therapeutic approaches you select should be based on content from the Prochaska and Norcross text and the material covered in SW 728.)
- Person centered therapies
- Existential Therapies
- Cognitive Therapies

- Compare and contrast elements of the different therapies within the context of the case provided.
- Apply relevant concepts/terms from each therapy to the analysis.
- Discuss the usefulness, goodness of fit, etc. of each therapy to assessment and intervention with this client/client system.
- Identify and discuss potential biases and assumptions made by each therapy and how this could affect the therapeutic/intervention process.
- Reference, discuss, and critique the therapies application to this case based on empirical evidence, giving consideration to culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, and disability from anti-racist and anti-oppressive approaches.
- Identify and discuss two potential ethical dilemmas you might experience in working with this client and using these three different therapies with this client. Include specific references to the NASW Code of Ethics in your discussion.
