Overview
Staff Training
The integrity of treatment was 92 on average, and it was facilitated by the structured fidelity systems. Sanches-Ferreira et al. (2021) confirm the usefulness of systematic fidelity monitoring in behavioral interventions. The 12-step protocol, ongoing supervision and weekly coaching guarantee the accuracy of the procedures. BACB Codes 4.06 and 2.17 focus on ethical employee training, oversight, and proper fidelity data gathering.
Before implementing A.J.’s intervention independently, all RBTs were trained
- RBTs were taught the 12-step session protocol, including all antecedent strategies, reinforcement procedures, and consequence steps.
- Training included written instructions, verbal explanations, and discussion of the rationale behind each step.
- Role-Play and Modeling:
- The BCBA modeled the protocol in live or simulated sessions.
- RBTs practiced each step through role-play to ensure they could respond correctly to behaviors such as verbal aggression or functional communication.
- The BCBA modeled the protocol in live or simulated sessions.
- Competency Assessment:
- Before running sessions independently, RBTs were observed implementing the full 12-step protocol.
- Fidelity was scored using a checklist, and mastery was required prior to independent session delivery.
- Before running sessions independently, RBTs were observed implementing the full 12-step protocol.
- Ongoing Coaching:
- Weekly supervision included live observation, feedback, and corrective coaching to address any deviations.
- This ensured consistency and maintained high fidelity across staff members.
- Weekly supervision included live observation, feedback, and corrective coaching to address any deviations.
Fidelity Data Collection
- Tool Used: 12-step fidelity checklist (Sanches‑Ferreira et al., 2021)
- Frequency: Completed during every session over 6 months
- Who Collected Data: BCBA or mid-level supervisor trained to reliably score implementation
- Data Scoring: Each checklist measured whether all 12 steps were implemented correctly, generating a percentage score for each session
Results
- Average Fidelity: 92%
- Data show consistent, accurate implementation of the intervention, with minor deviations addressed immediately through coaching.
- High fidelity indicates the intervention was delivered as designed, supporting the validity of observed outcomes.
