Overview
Hi,
My final essay topic will likely focus on extreme heat as an environmental justice issue, probably using Delhi/India as the case study. The required word count is 2500 words.
I will send you the relevant course files and readings later.
There is also one very important reading I would like you to include, but the file is larger than 20MB, so I may not be able to send it directly:
Alex Nading (2020), “Heat,” in Anthropocene Unseen: A Lexicon.
If possible, please try to find and use this reading. It is very relevant to my topic because it argues that heat is not experienced equally by everyone. Nading connects heat with labour, bodily harm, chronic kidney disease among sugarcane workers, migration, and environmental injustice.
The essay should focus especially on the structural inequality of heat. In other words, please do not treat heat as a purely natural climate hazard that affects everyone equally. Instead, the essay should explain how heat becomes unequal through social structures such as class, labour conditions, housing quality, urban planning, gender, poverty, and unequal access to cooling infrastructure.
The main argument should be that extreme heat is not only a climate problem, but also a social justice issue. Poorer communities, outdoor workers, informal settlement residents, women, and people without secure housing or cooling resources are often more exposed to heat and less able to adapt or recover.
Please also help me find suitable academic journal articles and credible reports, such as UN, NGO, government, or World Bank sources, especially about extreme heat in Delhi/India, urban inequality, labour exposure, housing inequality, health impacts, and access to cooling.
Before starting the full essay, please confirm the final topic, thesis, key concepts, and main structure with me first.
Also, because this assignment requires an AI use declaration/form, please tell me in advance if AI is used at any stage of the process, including for finding sources, organising ideas, rewriting, generating paragraphs, or checking grammar. I will need to report AI use honestly in the final declaration form. However, it would be best to avoid using AI as much as possible.
Thank you.
