This week I learned more about how web browsers work and the important role they play in helping us access information on the Internet. Before this lesson, I thought a browser was simply an application used to open websites. Now I understand that browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari communicate with web servers, interpret HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and display web pages in a way that users can easily interact with. I also learned that although the Internet and the World Wide Web are often used interchangeably, they are not the same thing. The Internet is the global network that connects computers, while the World Wide Web is a service that uses the Internet to provide access to websites and online information.

Another topic that stood out to me was the importance of browser security and keeping software up to date. Modern browsers include features such as encryption, phishing protection, pop-up blockers, and private browsing to help protect users from online threats. These tools are especially important because many of us use the Internet for online banking, shopping, schoolwork, and communication. Learning how browsers work behind the scenes has helped me appreciate the technology that makes everyday online activities possible. It has also reminded me that practicing safe browsing habits, such as using strong passwords and visiting trusted websites, is an important part of protecting personal information online.
