The topic that I found interesting from this week was how emails work. Before this, I understood the basics of sending an email but not the complex manner in which they are sent. For example, SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, POP (Post Office Protocol), IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) and MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions). These protocols offer a variety of security measures for an email to stay encrypted while being sent over a mail server over the internet. However, it is the sender's responsibility to send it to the correct recipient or organization.
Moving on, I also appreciated that the topic highlighted the importance of antivirus software and viruses given they are prevalent among our digital devices and not solely limited to computers. Nevertheless, software developers and big tech companies have created integrated antivirus within devices which makes them almost nonexistent to a consumer. That within itself shows how far technology has come compared to the early 2000’s. Overall, this topic brought some useful knowledge that can be of use to me in the future.
