The comparison of both movie and stage directors enables us to consider a movie director an auteur. The movie director's creative involvement at all stages of the production process is so high. They contribute to all the aspects of the production process from planning the scenes and actors' performances to selection of the camera angles and lighting schemes, editing and musical accompaniment, etc. As each visual and sound aspect of the film can be changed for the sake of the director's vision, they take a lot of decisions related to the creative process; as a result, it is an evident film which represents their artistic style. That is why we could say that, when mentioning Spielberg and Scorsese, people will always remember directors as the individuals responsible for the film’s creative part of the process since their unique style becomes recognizable from one film to another.

The position of a stage director is also significant. The main mission of the stage director is to interpret the script written by the playwright and implement it during rehearsals using the actor's talent, costumes and lightening designers, and technical crew. Nevertheless, after the premiere, the director's presence is reduced, and the actors perform the play every evening. Because the script is the core of the production process, the audience often assesses the playwright's contribution higher than that of the stage director.Even if a play fails, people still do not associate its failure with the author as the original text remains the same.

As for the places where the events are taking place in both movies and theater plays, they are very important as well due to their ability to create a certain atmosphere and help the plot unfold and give some insight into the characters. It should be understood that a properly created location is not only a backdrop. The atmosphere can be friendly, hostile, deserted, or full of excitement before the first character says anything. Characters’ emotions and thoughts are conveyed with the help of atmosphere, scenery, architecture, etc. The places where the events happen will help the audience understand what life is like in the world of these characters.

The main difference between theater and films is the way the scenery is created. While theater puts a lot of constraints on the creators as this type of performance takes place in a limited space of the theater itself, which leads to some challenges concerning what to create and how to accommodate several locations with the help of props, lights, etc. In general, it can be said that in theater performances the audience accepts that some locations are not depicted fully, and so the imagination of the audience becomes a part of the performance.

When it comes to films, they provide many advantages for the directors. In comparison to theater productions, films allow one to choose locations for filming and, thus, make the scenery as varied as possible. By making use of editing, camera movements, special effects, and composition, one can create realistic scenes or make them more dramatic. In this way, all sorts of films, including fantasy or historical ones, benefit from a huge number of opportunities provided by filmmaking. Overall, this can be extremely useful for the director as it opens many possibilities in terms of how to tell a story.
