Ideology in movies can be broken down into three main types: explicit, implicit, and neutral. Explicit ideology is when the message is very obvious and the movie clearly wants the audience to believe something. This is common in propaganda films. Neutral ideology is usually found in experimental movies that focus more on visuals, sounds, and creativity than on giving a lesson. Most regular movies use implicit ideology, where the message is there but not directly said.

Ideology can be seen as a “disguised language” because movies often share certain beliefs without the audience noticing. A film can make one character seem like a good role model while making another character’s actions look wrong. Since people are focused on the story, comedy, or action, they may not realize they are also being shown ideas about what is right or wrong.

A good example is Talladega Nights. It seems like a simple comedy about racing, but it also shows the problems with always needing to win. Ricky Bobby believes being first is everything, but that attitude hurts his career and relationships. The movie does not directly tell the audience the lesson, but it becomes clear through what happens to him.
