The takeaway from this chapter is that the screenplay is usually less exciting than the final movie because a screenplay is just an initial version of the film. The screenplay can be compared to the first draft of a book. The main elements of the movie are present in the script, but it does not show how to create the emotional and visual impact of the film. Hence, things like lights, music, camera shots, editing and acting are crucial for transforming the screenplay into the movie, which explains why the act of reading a movie script is not that exciting as watching a film based on this screenplay. The example of the Little Red Riding Hood video I watched during the lecture proves to me how filming affects the perception of the story. When the camera shows the wolf, people pay attention to the wolf’s perspective. When the camera is directed at the girl, the audience sees the events from the girl’s perspective. In short, even though the screenplay is the same in both cases, the interpretation of the screenplay by means of filming is totally different. Therefore, it becomes obvious why the screenplay writer and the director are equally important in the process of creation of a good film.
