This week, I learned a lot about wireless networking and how it has become an essential part of everyday computing. Before studying this topic, I understood that Wi-Fi allowed devices to connect to the internet without cables, but I did not fully understand how wireless networks actually function. I learned that wireless networking uses radio waves to transmit data between devices and a wireless access point. Standards such as IEEE 802.11 have evolved over time, improving speed, reliability, and security. Modern wireless networks can support many devices simultaneously while maintaining high performance, which is important in homes, schools, and businesses.
One aspect that I found particularly interesting was wireless network security. Because data travels through the air, wireless networks can be more vulnerable to unauthorized access than wired networks. I learned that encryption methods such as WPA2 and WPA3 help protect information by making it difficult for attackers to intercept or read transmitted data. This made me think about how important it is to use strong passwords and keep network equipment updated. As more devices such as smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices connect to wireless networks, security becomes even more important. Overall, this topic helped me better understand the technology that allows us to stay connected almost everywhere and the steps needed to keep those connections secure.
