Organizational Productivity: Effectiveness and Efficiency

For me, productivity in the organization is the effective use of time, money, materials and employee effort to accomplish the important results. Productivity is not just a matter of 'testing' something—; the text emphasize effectiveness and efficiency. It's also a question of whether duties are getting performed the intended way and performing whether resources are being utilized appropriately. Effectiveness is doing the right things to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Efficiency is defined as doing things with minimal waste (Robbins & Judge, 2022).

For instance, I have seen this in places when employees knew exactly what they were responsible for and their timelines. Projects were completed on schedule and customer service was enhanced when workers knew what to do. This proved successful because the organization was achieving its objectives. Concurrently, shared schedules and electronic records minimizing repeated tasks/gains time. This proved them efficient for they permitted employees to finish their jobs without needless shifts.

I have also noticed when an organization was effective and not efficient. For instance, a group can finish a project and get it right, but take too long to make corrections or do the same work over. The end result is reached, but there are valuable resources that are underutilized. But an organization may be efficient and not effective. Fast employees can perform tasks without spending a lot of time but the task might not be a customer need or not be of an organization's objective, so the productivity is still poor.

To ensure good organizational productivity in my opinion, both effectiveness and efficiency need to be achieved. Organizational objectives must be communicated to the workers, but there is also a need of providing tools and the process to work efficiently. Including clear communication is critical as it can lead to delays, inaccuracies, and duplicate work. By knowing what the organization must do, and how they can do it efficiently, employees are more likely to perform well in the organization. In this sense, productivity is defined as the production of a product that is useful in an organization using resources appropriately (Robbins & Judge, 2022).
