Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to expose you to some of the important current topics/events impacting the auditing and accounting profession. The field is constantly changing and it is important that you’re attuned to the changes. Although it can be disruptive, change can also present exciting new opportunities.
You’ll choose your own groups (these are now reflected in Canvas). Each group will choose a current topic from this List of Current Events/Topics (Appendix A).
With your team, you’ll research the topic in more detail and create a 10-12 minute presentation that includes:
- A summary of key points and takeaways most relevant for your audience (i.e., your classmates)
- Clear introduction and explanation of key terms
- Information from new sources beyond the article I’ve provided for you (i.e., recent new press articles, statistics, etc.) as applicable
- A connection between the topic and what we’ve learned in class
You’ll then have up to 3 minutes to answer questions from your classmates. Your total allotted time will be 15 minutes.
You will need to practice diligently to ensure that you communicate everything you want to during the allotted time. I suggest including around five slides in your presentation. Focus on what’s most important and interesting!

- Prompt: It’s important to understand what type of non-financial information is being disclosed by public companies (and is potentially being used by investors in their decision making). Using Apple’s 2022 ESG Report, discuss the type and extent of information disclosed. Do you think it is trustworthy? What assurance is provided over this information? Do you think investors are using this information?
This will be required in a slide show.
