Accounting Question

Overview

  • Your final assignment's grade will NOT depend on your technical ability to perform a quantitative valuation. In fact, providing a technically correct valuation without a thorough analysis of the overall opportunity is a sure way to get a low grade. Instead, your performance will be evaluated based on your overall analysis (both qualitative and quantitative) of the entrepreneurial opportunity ("people, opportunity, deal, and context"). Specifically:
    • Spend no more than 10% of your effort (time) on the valuation analysis.
    • Your grade will not depend on providing a “correct” valuation. It will reflect your ability to thoughtfully analyze the situation, identify key decision factors, and justify your investment recommendation.
  • Real-World Complexity: Entrepreneurial situations rarely have clear “right or wrong” answers. Your goal is not to deliver a “correct” solution but to dissect the key elements of the decision-making process and recommend an approach based on your personal assessment.
  • Focus on demonstrating how the Carlton opportunity should be assessed—not on finding the “correct” answer (spoiler alert: there isn't one!). If you do this well, you will receive an excellent grade. More importantly, you will deepen your understanding of how to navigate complex entrepreneurial investment scenarios.
