Student 1-The assignment that best demonstrated my application of Resume Building Skills for this course was assignment 9-1 Project. This helped me pull together a lot of skills that I have learned throughout the course. I was able to look at the financial documents given to review and see where the evidence of fraud pertained to and who was essentially was involved and what happened to pull together the descriptive report. I love assignments like this it truly shows what I know and putting those skills to use.
Currently working in an accounting office, we review and look at financial statements for many companies this helps me put a little spin and see if there is anything going on within the company that should be looked at deeper. This will also apply to the audits I have helped do field work for and what I should be looking for.
The professional organization that I would like to learn more about would be The Association of Nonprofit Accountants and Finance Professionals, AANAFP. While I do work currently at my firm for nonprofits, would love to be involved more to learn about nonprofits and their effective and efficient run organizations
The CFE and CPA certifications do have different areas of expertise within the accountant world. The CFE just focuses in fraud detection, investigation, and how to prevent. CPA is broader with many areas of focus in general accounting, auditing and financial reporting. A CPA license is required to perform jobs including independent auditing, which is also known as public accounting. (Myers, 2024) Both are well recognized depending on what you prefer for your career path.

Student 2-Hi Everyone,
Reflecting on Resume Building Skills and Professional Growth in Accounting
One of the assignments that best demonstrates my application for the Resume Building Skills from this course is Project 9-1: Case Study on Fraud Examination. This assignment was particularly impactful because it required me to analyze the impact of fraud schemes on an organization, evaluate methods for detecting and preventing fraud, and describe fraud examination procedures in alignment with regulations and professional standards. It challenged me to synthesize technical knowledge with real-world applications, which is a critical skill in the accounting profession.
This project helped me develop and display several key competencies:
- Analytical thinking: Assessing the financial and operational consequences of fraud.
- Regulatory knowledge: Applying standards such as those from the ACFE and GAAP.
- Communication: Clearly articulate findings and recommendations in a professional format.
In a professional environment, these skills are essential. For example, in my current role (or in a future role), I could apply this knowledge during internal audits or risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend controls that mitigate fraud risk. Understanding fraud schemes and prevention strategies is especially valuable in industries with high compliance demands, such as finance, healthcare, or government.
A professional organization I would like to learn more about is the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). I believe that becoming involved with the ACFE would provide access to innovative resources, networking opportunities, and continuing education that would strengthen my expertise in forensic accounting and fraud prevention. Their conferences and webinars could also help me stay current with emerging threats and regulatory changes.
Regarding certifications, the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credentials serve different but complementary purposes. The CPA focuses broadly on accounting, auditing, and tax, while the CFE specializes in fraud detection, investigation, and prevention. Given my interest in fraud examination and internal controls, I believe pursuing the CFE certification would be especially beneficial to my career path. However, obtaining both would provide a powerful combination of credibility and versatility in the accounting field.
I really enjoyed the class.
Thank you and Good Luck!

Student 3-Hello Everyone,
One of the assignments that best demonstrates my application of resume building skills in this course was the fraud examination case analysis. This assignment required me to synthesize complex financial data, identify red flags, and apply forensic accounting methodologies to assess the likelihood of fraudulent activity. It was a direct reflection of my ability to think critically, communicate findings clearly, and apply professional skepticism.
I believe this assignment is the strongest representation of my development because it mirrors the real-world responsibilities I currently undertake as an Internal Auditor. In my role, I regularly conduct suspicious activity reviews and prepare reports that require both analytical precision and clear communication. The case analysis helped refine my ability to present findings in a structured, professional format, which is crucial when collaborating with compliance teams or preparing documentation for our executives.
One skill I’ve consistently used in a professional environment is risk-based auditing. Whether I’m reviewing transactions from employee accounts or doing targeted reviewed for a high-risk area, I rely on my understanding of risk assessments to prioritize reviews and allocate resources effectively. This skill not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens the organization’s overall control environment.
A professional organization I would like to learn more about is the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). As someone deeply invested in forensic accounting and fraud prevention, I believe the ACFE offers valuable resources, networking opportunities, and continuing education that align with my long-term goal of becoming a leading expert in the field. Their publications and conferences could provide insights into emerging fraud trends and best practices that would elevate my professional capabilities.
The CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) serve distinct purposes, and both are certifications I desire to obtain. The CPA focuses on financial reporting, auditing, and regulatory compliance, while the CFE emphasizes fraud detection, investigation, and prevention. Given my career trajectory toward internal auditing and forensic accounting, I believe both certifications will be beneficial. However, the CFE aligns more directly with my current role and long-term goal of specializing in fraud examination. That said, pursuing the CPA will broaden my expertise and open doors to more senior roles.
