This lab is a repeat of the same forecasting task you completed in:
- Data Analytics Lab #3 – Excel Forecasting
- Data Analytics Lab #5– Tableau Forecasting
We are having the same objectives, but this time you will use Power BI to complete the forecasting process.
🔁 The goal is not to redo the same analysis for the sake of repetition — Instead, the purpose of this lab is to give you experience using multiple software tools to solve the same business problem, so you can:
- Compare how each tool handles forecasting
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses
- Decide which platform you prefer — and why
- Gain more insight into how different tools serve different business needs
This is a valuable learning opportunity for future analysts, accountants, and decision-makers.

If you haven’t already installed PowerBI, please go back to the Orientation Assignment and follow the instructions to get PowerBI set up on your device.
You may also want to visit the “Exploring PowerBI” page in this week’s module for additional tutorials and practice resources.
📎 Submission Instructions
- Complete your forecast in Power BI
- Take screenshots of:
- IBM quarterly sales forecast chart
- IBM quarterly income before extraordinary items forecast chart
- Paste your screenshots into a Word document and name your file "Data Analytics #6 Submission"
- Add your write-up at the end of the Word file (see below)
- Submit your Word file only via Canvas

📝 Write-Up Requirement (Max 300 Words)
At the end of your Word document, include a short write-up addressing the following:

- In terms of ease of use, visualization, flexibility, and overall experience
- What are the pros and cons of each tool (Excel, Tableau, Power BI)?
- Which software do you prefer for this type of forecasting — and why?
