industry that is headquartered in the United States (so it is in US$ and follows US GAAP
accounting rules) in which you are interested. The company must have net income for the
most recent 2 years of public financial statements. It cannot have a net loss on the Income
Statement for the most recent 2 years of public financial statements that you analyze as it
will negatively impact the analysis work you will do. Your company choice must be
approved before you begin the project. You will indicate your chosen company that
meets these requirements at the end of your first exam. So before you begin Exam 1,
make sure you have chosen your company and checked that it meets all requirements.
For Phase I, you will input into an Excel model the most recent 2 years of financial
statements from the company’s annual 10-K filed with the SEC (www.sec.gov). After the
instructor reviews and approves the input from Phase I, you will then do Phase II, which
is to analyze the financial ratios calculated using the numbers you input into the financial
statements to assess the financial condition/health of the company. Note: Your company
choice must be approved before you can begin your work. You will submit your
company request at the end of Exam 1 because if the numbers are input on the wrong
lines in the model during Phase I, your ratios will be wrong and you will have to re-do
Phase II conclusions/analysis. A video describing the project is on Brightspace. Note:
Corrections will be permitted on Phase I to earn back up to 100% of points lost assuming
you earn at least a 50% on the original submission of the assignment Note: If you don’t
initially hand in the completed Excel Phase I on time or you do such a poor job on it that
you earn less than a 50%, then that is the grade you will keep on Phase I. Corrections are
not permitted on Phase II.
