The objective of this assignment is to deepen your understanding of professional ethics in auditing and to explore the different types of audit reports. You will analyze the significance of ethics in auditing and discuss how various audit reports are used in practice.
Begin by following these steps:
- Identify a public company that interests you.
- Go to http://www.sec.gov/ and type the company name into the search box at the top right of the home page.
- Find the company’s latest 10-K annual report.
After you have found the report, write a paper that addresses the following prompts:
- Part 1: Company and Audit Information
- Analyze the company’s audit report.
- Identify the company’s auditor or the firm they work for.
- Research the auditing firm. How big is it? What services does it offer? What types of jobs are available there?
- Conclude whether the company’s auditor issue a combined or separate report on the financial statements and internal controls.
- Distinguish between the two types of reports. Explain what each means and why an auditor might choose one type of report over the other.
- Part 2: Audit Opinion
- Research the opinion the auditor issued.
- Differentiate between different audit opinions, and explain why the auditor chose to issue the opinion included in the audit report.
- Determine if the company has received a modified opinion in the past 3 years. If so, explain why the opinion was modified.
- Part 3: Ethics
- Evaluate how the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Code of Professional Ethics affects the way an audit is conducted.
Your paper will be 5–7 pages in length, following proper APA format.
