Overview
The Group Assignment for the course Hospitality Financial Accounting consists of a case study
analysis and an oral presentation to be delivered...... This is a group
assignment (groups of 4 to 5 students), and it is worth 30% of your final grade. The structure of
the assignment is the following:
1. Part A: Cash Flow Statement for 2023, 2024 and 2025
2. Part B: Financial Ratio Analysis and Commentary
3. Part C: Fixed vs. Variable Cost Classification with Justification
4. Part D: Journal Entries for 30 January 2025 transactions
You will receive the case study of Le Bistro du Lac SARL, a small family-owned restaurant
located on the lakeside of a Swiss town. The case file includes the company background, P&L
and Balance Sheet for the years 2023 to 2025, and the templates you will need to complete each
part of the assignment.
The assignment will assess your ability to calculate, interpret, explain, discuss, assess, and
make recommendations based on (almost) real financial data. Please refer to the sections
learning objectives on Moodle for more guidance on what is expected from you.
The deliverable is a 10-minute group presentation followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with
the faculty and external experts. No written report is required, however, slides are expected to
support your presentation. There is no prior submission of the slides required on Moodle: you
will present directly from your own device on the day. Time management will be important to
Page 1 / 2succeed, so remember the rule of thumbs: prepare for roughly 2 minutes per part and leave
room for an introduction and a closing recommendation.
The questions in the Q&A session will not only cover your case analysis but also the underlying
concepts seen in class (see the course Sections on Moodle). You should be ready to explain the
logic behind your numbers, justify your classification and accounting choices, and link your
findings to the theoretical frameworks discussed during the semester.
The grading of the assignment is split as follows:
1. 2. Group grade (50%): quality of the slides, accuracy of the answers, and overall quality of
the group presentation
Individual grade (50%): quality of the delivery, confidence and free speech, and critical
thinking demonstrated during the presentation and the Q&A
You can score a maximum of 100 points (100%) and have a total of 20 minutes (10 minutes of
presentation + 10 minutes of Q&A) to convince the faculty and the external experts of the quality
of your work. Each member of the group is expected to present and to answer questions during
the Q&A: silent members will not be awarded the individual portion of the grade.
