3) Eskenazi Museum of Art assignment
Write an essay comparing the following two works, both in the Eskenazi Museum Art:
- Antiveduto Grammatica, Judith and Holofernes, ca. 1610-15
- Matthias Stomer, Mocking of Christ, ca. 1640
How are these two paintings similar and/or different from the work of Caravaggio?
What I am asking you to do here is to write a classic, five paragraph essay, though you may choose to expand it beyond that basic requirement. It should include an introductory paragraph that has a clear thesis statement and it should finish with a concluding paragraph. What makes this different from most other essays is that you will be writing about what you see. Each work of art should be introduced with a description. What you are trying to do with that is to convey the appearance of the work of art to someone who is not able to see it. Start with the obvious and general, and then move to the particular. Make sure that your text conveys an overall impression of the work and does not read like a list.
