Overview

• The Four Seasons is one of the most popular pieces in Classical music.  It is widely used in movies, and commercials, Europeans still have a deep fondness for Opera and tickets are quite costly.  From 1600 – 1800, primarily in Italy (other European countries participated too) the practice of castration took place in church choirs, of boys entering puberty.  When Opera became popular, many of these famous singers took to the stage and were heralded as superstars, much like our top musicians/bands are today.  The most famous castrato singer was Carlo Broschi, who took the stage name of Farinelli.  A video about his life and career is sometimes shown on cable movie channels.  It is simply entitled Farinelli.
