This week we have a relatively simple and easy assignment for our Graded Discussion, and one that will allow you to learn while also teaching each other, and almost certainly your instructor as well.
THE IDEA:
As you reach the end of this module, you may notice that, with a very few exceptions, we haven't focused much on Individual Artists much in our Discussion of Italian Renaissance theater, especially if we compare this to our Modules on Greek and Roman theater, and one of the main reasons for this is because while Italian Renaissance contributed greatly to the theater world in terms of advancements in Architecture, Philosophy, and Genres (such as Opera and Commedia Dell'Arte), it didn't create that much in terms of great playwrights, actors, or designers. We've mentioned Carlo Goldoni and Sebastiano Serlio, but where is everyone else?
Well, that's for you to find out.
THE ASSIGNMENT:
What you will do in this discussion is the following:
Find an artist from Italian Renaissance theater who hasn't been mentioned in this week's Module, i.e. someone who ISN'T Carlo Goldoni or Sebastiano Serlio. Is it someone from your textbook, or someone found in another source? Look around and try to find someone no one else would think to mention. Find the weirdest or craziest artist from Italian Renaissance theater you can! Make it fun, if you aren't having fun already! AND REMEMBER: They have to be Theater Artists; Don't come here and post about a Renaissance sculptor or painter or composer of madrigals. Find yourself a playwright, an actor, or designer. (A sculptor, painter, or composer is OK if they ALSO worked in Theater.)
Come to this Discussion and post, for your group mates. Make sure you tell us: A. Who your artist is; B. Why they are important; C. TWO interesting or important facts about this person.
- Make sure you post a link in your Discussion so that we can go and read/watch about this person on our own as well.
As usual, Talk to Each Other. Pick two of your classmates and Really Try to say something that keeps the conversation going.
