Overview
Course Description
What is the Capstone? Is it writing? Is it researching, making, or thinking critically? Creating a text? In the 21st century, what is a text? Is it only the words on the page? Can it also be a film, a graphic novel or comic, an informative website or a game? The Capstone allows you to create artistic and alternative text and write a well-researched paper that informs the project. This course demonstrates your ability to think critically, research, analyze, interpret complex ideas, write in an articulate manner, create something that communicates your perspectives, and skillfully present your work to an audience. Through discussion and reflection, students will identify and explore an engaging and important question/issue within their chosen field, and write about specific issues and concerns they believe are the most critical in understanding and evaluating their roles as artists and designers. By considering your topic in relation to your general education, major, senior projects, and vocational aspirations, the Capstone class is where your LAS and studio experiences come together.
Method:
Mindmapping is a fun and easy way to explore your topic and find important paths to follow. We will do a mind mapping exercise in class. The following sites demonstrate different methods of mind mapping. We'll use paper and pen but feel free to explore online tools from home if you desire to continue this form of exploration!
