Overview
Complete the four sections of the essay as outlined below:
Write a Formal Analysis of the painting. Simply look at the work of art and tell me what you see in response to the requirements listed below.
a. Paragraph A - Simply note how you see the elements of art (line, shape, form, volume, mass, texture, value, space, color, motion and time) are used in the work. If you need to refresh your memory on any of these elements, please review Sections 1.1 – 1.5 of your text. Be sure to comment on every element of art.

b. Paragraph B - Continue your Formal Analysis by noting any principles of art (unity, variety, balance, scale and proportion, focal point and emphasis, contrast, pattern and rhythm) you see are used in the work. If you need to refresh your memory on any of these principles, please review Sections 1.6 – 1.9 of your text. Be sure to comment on every principle of art.

c. Paragraph C - Finish the essay by writing one paragraph of what you think of the work. Consider your response, what the work makes you feel or remember. With what life experiences might you associate the work of art? You are not obligated to “like” the work. You just have to justify your response in an educated way. Be thorough in your discussion!
