Discussion 6: Creating meaningful recommendations

Recommendations are a crucial component of the discussion section of any research project. These recommendations will guide future research, explain the scope and limitations of your work, and illustrate the implications of your results. Consider the cash bail procedures discussed earlier in the course. The recommendations section would be useful in articulating the things your research did not reveal or determine about the cash bail process.

Identify one recommendation from your research and analyze, in your opinion, why it is important to your topic?

Chapter V: Discussion, Conclusions, and Recommendations

The writing at the end of the report has a different purpose and, consequently, a different tone than that in the initial chapters. The background material is not mentioned in this chapter. The summaries and conclusions are more focused. This chapter involves:

• A discussion of the research Project, including the findings, interpretation of the results, implications of the study and problems and/or limitations
• A conclusion: what did the author find? What did the author learn?

Recommendations for changes in policy or practice, future research, or anything else that will direct solutions to the problem(s) that were the focus of the research. All project papers should include recommendations for future research.
