Overview
You will develop your own topic on the influenza pandemic of 1918-1919, based on your
articulation of a research question. Research questions could center on a variety of topics, but
some themes to consider include: the experience of influenza (soldiers, civilians, nurses,
families, children, etc.); perceptions and views of the epidemic; the language and discourses
around influenza; impacts of influenza (communities, families, World War I, etc.); influenza in
the context of war and colonialism; health inequalities; policies and preventative measures;
medical knowledge and therapies, etc.
