discussion 3 module 3 TUX105

Review the learning material and respond to the following prompts in your main discussion post. Be sure to support your opinion with learning materials or external resources.

Practicing digital citizenship includes knowing how to evaluate the information we encounter online. As discussed in section 3.8 of the TriSuccess reading, the TRAP test — assessing Timing, Relevance, Authority, and Purpose — provides a practical framework for determining if information is trustworthy. Information literacy helps us think critically about what we see, and using tools like the TRAP test equips us to identify disinformation, avoid fraud, and make smarter, more informed decisions about the information we choose to trust.

  • Describe an internet scam that you have personally encountered or that someone you know has experienced. Based on the TRAP test and other concepts explored in this module, what advice would you give to others to help them avoid falling victim to similar scams?
  • If you haven’t encountered an internet scam yourself, take a moment to research some common scams. Share the details of one, along with the warning signs or “red flags” that others can watch for to avoid being tricked.

When responding to classmates, share commonalities with the scam you discussed in your post, or share additional ways the scam could be spotted using the TRAP test or other concepts explored in this module.
