Writing Question

Overview

LinkedIn Profile

This assignment asks you to create a LinkedIn profile for a woman from the Bible. For this assignment, you may use any woman from the Bible. This assignment is an exercise in close reading, so you need to read the biblical text about your character carefully in order to make a successful profile. This assignment is also an exercise in interpretation—filling the gaps between what we know and what we don’t—and the written component allows you to pay attention to what influences helped you make the choices you did.

Note: Do not actually go to LinkedIn and create a profile. Create a Word doc/PDF/Canva presentation/etc. that presents the same information that is presented in a LinkedIn profile.

The assignment is composed of two parts: the profile itself and the 2–3 page reflection that accompanies it. Requirements for each part are as follows:

  • Profile
    • The minimum information that should be included is: a headline (120 characters, states your character's current job title, if any, and describes who she is, what she does, and the value she offers); an "about" section (her professional narrative that highlights her accomplishments, career goals, and passions); an "experience" section (work history, including key achievements and responsibilities); a "skills" section (list at least five skills)
    • The above information should be clearly identified in the profile—don’t make me try to guess what’s what.
  • Written component
    • The written component should be 2–3 pages, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.
    • At least one paragraph should summarize what information you did know about your character before you made your profile. This shows that you read the appropriate biblical text closely and gleaned as many details as possible.
    • At least one paragraph should summarize at least two gaps in the information provided in the biblical text that you had to use your own creativity and interpretation to fill—what didn’t you know about your character? How did you use the information you did know to make an educated guess about what your character might say in her profile?
    • At least one paragraph should explain the influences that informed the decisions you made, including any aspects of your own positionality that were relevant to your profile. Were you influenced by other biblical texts, the culture of social media, something you’ve seen amongst your friends, what you would put in your own profile, etc.?
    • You should provide at least three biblical citations that informed your profile.

Please note that the rubric represents a range; scores will be assigned for each category on a scale of 0–10, including all numbers in between.
